Plantforce Fleet Renewal 2026
Following a successful collaboration in 2024, Ritchie Bros. is proud to announce that Plantforce, a leading UK plant hire specialist, has renewed its partnership for its fleet renewal auction in 2026. This agreement is more than a simple transaction; it solidifies a strategic, long-term alliance built on trust, brand synergy, and proven market results.
Plantforce is renowned across the UK for operating a state-of-the-art, high-quality fleet. The timely and efficient disposal of assets is therefore critical to maintaining their high standards and ensuring their customers always have access to the newest, most reliable equipment. This continuous disposal process is now firmly anchored by Ritchie Bros.’ global platform.
Validating the 2024 Success and Quality
Why commit to a large-scale auction partner for another year? For Samuel Mercer, CEO at Plantforce, the decision came down to two core factors: Trust and Brand Synergy.
“There’s an element of trust between the two parties, and considering this is a large sum of money and a large amount of assets, quite a bit of flexibility is needed,” Sam explains. “Whenever a relationship comes down to what a contract says or doesn’t say, that’s hard to work with in our industry. But I think the trust and the flexibility from the team at Ritchie Bros. UK has ensured we have a deal that is best for both.”
This trust is reinforced by the dual-brand approach: “The auction is very clearly marketed as a dual-brand auction, which has been a big factor for us. It’s not just a Ritchie Bros. auction, it’s based on the value and the reputation of the Plantforce brand as well, which is great.”
This strategic alignment means the auction is not just about clearing inventory; it’s about influencing the market’s perception of quality. Sam sees the direct link between auction performance and the health of the entire business: “The resale value of your machine is hugely important; auctions now are where the prices are recorded and monitored, the better our auction does, the higher our value is, which is a really good thing for us and our buying.”
Partnership, Planning, and Sustainability
For a business that needs to sell over 400 machines annually, disposal cannot be a reactive process; it must be a confident, strategic component of capital expenditure planning.
“We need to sell 400 machines a year, at a minimum,” Sam notes. “Whatever I’ve got left over at the end of the year, I’ve got a partner now that’s not going to panic if I say, ‘Oh, actually, it’s 500 this year.’ That gives me great comfort and confidence to know that we will be able to achieve our disposal targets with the help of the team at Ritchie Bros. UK.”
The partnership also enables Plantforce to drive sustainability and efficiency across the industry. By constantly retiring three- and four-year-old equipment, they ensure high-spec, modern machines enter the secondary market quickly, often carrying the latest emissions standards.
This quick turnover means the buyer receives significant value. Sam explains: “These machines are sold at the right time, meaning there is still another 10–15 years of good work life in them. That’s a huge benefit to the supply chain.”
The Buyer Confidence & Peer Endorsement
The commitment to a multi-year partnership and the promotion of a high-quality fleet have already had a tangible impact on the market. Since the first auction, Plantforce has seen a “huge increase in customers trying to come directly”. This confirms that being publicly seen partnering with a trusted global leader reaffirms confidence in the quality of the Plantforce brand.
When asked how he would describe the Ritchie Bros. partnership to a peer, Sam offered three essential words that capture the essence of the collaboration:
“Trust, Agility and Brand.”
He expanded on this, emphasising the importance of a co-operative relationship as Plantforce continues its rapid growth: “Brand is really important to us because we work so hard to make sure that’s right. With the growth of the company this year, we need to sell 400 machines; in five years’ time, I probably need to sell a thousand to 1,500. So this must be a long-lasting relationship that works both ways.”
Looking Ahead and The Rewarding Part
This strategic renewal for 2025/2026 confirms that the partnership between Plantforce and Ritchie Bros. is built for the long haul. The shared goal is to build a repeatable, calendar-defining auction event where buyers know they can find reliable, high-quality, modern equipment every year.
