Operations Excellence

Selling heavy equipment can be complex –– from inspections and transport to marketing and paperwork. But at Ritchie Bros., we simplify the process for thousands of businesses around the world. Behind every sale is a skilled operations team that handles everything from start to finish. In 2024, we supported the sale of over 780,000 assets globally –– a true demonstration of operational excellence.

“People often think of us as just an auction company,” explains Shane Eshuis, Vice President of Operations at Ritchie Bros. “But we are much more than that: we don’t just provide an online platform service –– we deliver a complete experience.”

Before the Auction: Fast Start, Strong Support

Every customer journey begins with one goal: sell fast, sell well. Once a seller contacts Ritchie Bros., a local Territory Manager assesses the equipment, advises on possible refurbishing to enhance value, and finalizes the consignment agreement.

Next, the equipment is delivered to one of our yards –– we can even help arrange transport –– and is securely stored for free until the sale. Each item is professionally photographed and marketed globally through targeted, multi-channel campaigns designed to reach the right buyers from Ritchie Bros.’ extensive international audience.

To boost buyer confidence and drive higher interest, many items also feature 360-degree inspection views, offering online bidders a transparent, detailed look at the asset –– as if they were viewing it in person. This visual tool has proven to help increase engagement and trust. Read more about how it works.

Auction Day: Seamless Execution

During viewing days and on auction day, our operations team manage everything on-site –– from safety and logistics to buyer inquiries and real-time bidding. We ensure the entire experience runs smoothly for both sellers and buyers.

Once a bid is won and payment is secured, the equipment is released to the buyer. Sellers receive proceeds within 21 days. We also handle all necessary documentation –– title transfers, export paperwork, and permits –– thanks to our expert local teams.

After the Auction: Closing the Loop

Our work doesn’t stop when the “hammer” falls. We continue to support customers after the sale with asset release, documentation, and final settlement.

“There are no hidden fees –– no extra costs for appraisals, photos, or listings,” says Eshuis. “Sellers don’t need to worry about a thing –– even optional refurbishing and transport can be arranged for by us.”

Our After Market Services ensure that sellers stay supported through every final detail –– from paperwork to logistics. It’s a true end-to-end experience.

The Power Behind the Process: Our People

At the heart of it all are our people –– operations teams, coordinators, logistics experts, and customer service professionals who keep everything running seamlessly.

“We’re proud of our technology, we’re proud of the auction experience,” concludes Eshuis. “But what really makes the difference is our people, our service, and the peace of mind we deliver. That’s the Ritchie Bros. way.”

Whether it’s coordinating complex transport in the UAE or running international marketing campaigns from Europe, our teams bring experience, speed, and professionalism to every sale.
