Ritchie Bros. deepens its presence in Western Australia’s mining and construction sectors, enhancing its national footprint and global reach.

Ritchie Bros., part of RB Global, has announced the acquisition of Smith Broughton Auctioneers and its affiliated company Allied Equipment Sales, two respected, Australian-owned businesses with deep roots in the local equipment industry.

This strategic move strengthens Ritchie Bros.’ national footprint and extend its global reach, bringing together two organisations built on the same core values: trust, transparency, and integrity.

“Smith Broughton is a respected leader with deep roots in Western Australia,” said Finlay Massey, Vice President, International Sourcing, Ritchie Bros. “By bringing these businesses into the Ritchie Bros. network, we’re strengthening our national capabilities, connecting local expertise with our global marketplace, and delivering greater value and reach for Australian equipment owners.”

A Strong Partnership Built on Shared Values

Founded over 40 years ago, Smith Broughton Auctioneers has earned a strong reputation for reliability and service, becoming a trusted name for construction, mining, and transport equipment sales in the region. Under the new partnership, Smith Broughton will continue operating under its established brand from its Midland, WA location, ensuring continuity for customers and staff alike.

“This partnership represents the best of both worlds — global scale combined with local service,” said Darren Smith, Managing Director of Smith Broughton Auctioneers. “For more than four decades, our customers have trusted us to deliver reliable results with integrity. Joining Ritchie Bros. enables us to continue that legacy while opening the door to new markets and opportunities.”

Expanding Local Strength with Global Reach

Through this acquisition, Ritchie Bros. continues to invest in Australia’s resource-rich states, aligning with its long-term growth strategy in the mining, construction, and transport sectors. The integration enhances the company’s capacity to serve local businesses and large-scale industrial operators, connecting them with buyers worldwide.

“Our combined capabilities create a powerful platform for customers,” added Ghislaine Duijmelings, General Manager, International, Ritchie Bros. “From local businesses in Western Australia to multinational mining operators, sellers can now access the world’s largest marketplace for industrial assets — supported by local expertise and a shared commitment to excellence.”

Together, the combined group now conducts approximately 155 auctions annually across Australia, supported by a national team of more than 100 employees.
